AN ALTERNATIVE OSCAR STATUE TO SHOW THE REAL COST OF GOLD IN THE AMAZON. 

In the heart of Amazon, the Yanomami are screaming for help. The gold mining cartels use violence and thousands of gallons of mercury which poisons the rivers causing famine and disease in one of the worst humanitarian crisis in Brazil’s history. To get people to listen, we decided to use a global event that is the embodiment of gold: The Oscars. We offered the Oscar nominee an alternative statuette inspired by a Yanomami divinity called Omama, showing them the real cost of gold.
